Types of 24-Hour Care Service

When seeking care for your loved one, Ask4Care provides two options: live-in and shift-based 24-hour care. While the terms may appear similar, they are approached in different ways. Understanding how the caregiver’s schedule operates and what is required can assist you in making the best decision.

Live-In Care

Live-in care means your caregiver remains in your loved one’s home for the entire shift. You must provide a separate sleeping quarter and bed, so the individual can take rest breaks. With this care type, we schedule one person over four days and another for the remainder of the week. Two different caregivers will interact with your family member each week.

You should note that your caregiver is not on duty for 24 hours each day. Ontario caregivers receive a mandatory eight-hour break for sleep during an entire shift. They also receive four-hour breaks during daytime hours and can leave the home. If coverage is a concern, we offer another caregiver to cover the hours.

Shift-Based Care

Shift-based care provides two caregivers to offer support within a 24-hour interval. Each person is in charge of a 12-hour shift, one taking days and the other nights. Caregivers are not offered rest periods in between and are available to handle any emergency or situation.

When 24-Hour Home Care is Essential

There are times when 24-hour home care is essential. Reasons range from recovering from surgery to chronic illness to the effects of aging. Yet, regardless of the circumstances, our services allow your loved one to receive the care they need while maintaining their independence.

Surgery Recovery

For loved ones recently discharged from a hospital, 24-hour care helps them heal in familiar surroundings. Caregivers can help prepare and serve meals, assist with going to the bathroom, and provide transportation as they go to appointments. They can also shop for groceries and do errands.

Chronic Illness

If your loved one suffers from a chronic illness, 24-hour home care assists them in remaining independent. Our caregivers can assist with personal care tasks like dressing, brushing teeth, taking showers, and daily household tasks.

Mobility Issues

Some people experience mobility issues for various reasons. It may be a work-related incident, accident, or part of the aging process. For mobility challenges, our caregivers can assist in handling laundry, light housekeeping, and transportation. We equip our vehicles to handle fold-up wheelchairs and walkers.

Cognitive Issues

Those experiencing cognitive issues may require around-the-clock monitoring. Continuous care gives the family peace of mind, knowing that if their condition changes, someone will assist them. Continual care provides enhanced security and safety for those with cognitive issues while helping those experiencing confusion and unpredictable behaviours.
